My Word of the Year is Visibility. All my life I’ve been drawn to the image of the naked tree, standing unabashed, raw and vulnerable in its beauty, with a lesson for us all. It has always felt profound to me and speaks to who I am at my core. I am strong, peaceful, and continuing to grow, often despite less than optimal circumstances. This naked tree is who I am underneath all the mess and fuss. Naked Tree also happened to be the name of my business before I converted to Guen Morr Coaching, which is no coincidence.
This blog is yet another expression of that symbol of exposure and vulnerability; that peacefulness and commitment to growth and transformation. With my word of the year guiding me, I’ll be creating lots of ways to connect, to grow, and to give you a behind the scenes look at my practice, my goals, my lessons, and my personal challenges and successes. I’m expanding my reach and sharing more of ME – mess and fuss and all!
To Niche or Not to Niche?
I used to think that I needed to fit into a coaching niche. I’ve provided executive coaching, life coaching, codependency coaching, relationship recovery coaching, and now an emphasis on empowerment coaching. And although I always had the itch to make more space for women’s group coaching, I was concerned it would further complicate how potential clients and organizations would view my practice and my areas of expertise.
The truth of the matter is after 18 years of coaching experience and my own personal transformation, I don’t want to force myself into a box anymore. It wasn’t working anyway, and I often felt restricted and not fully at choice. This year, I’m letting go of the need to niche. I am here for you in all possible capacities — in any coaching niche or expertise I can provide and to anyone and everyone. I’m embracing all of me, showing up like a naked tree, and inviting you to join me.
So, I’m going to talk about…
Understanding where we have choice and cultivating an empowerment mindset
Coping with fear and anxiety
Change, transition and navigating uncertainty
Shedding light on codependency and why the heck we run from that word
Communication and conflict in relationships, and more!
There are so many important topics out there, and they will all be shared against the backdrop of some personal stories and framed by one of my coaching credos — live a life of choice!
What Exactly Does That Mean?
“A Life of Choice" means taking control of your own development and growth. It's about consciously deciding the direction you want your life to take, rather than letting circumstances dictate your path.
This concept encourages you to see life as a series of choices where you are the main decision-maker. It's about recognizing that every choice - big or small - can have significant impacts on your life's trajectory. From career decisions to personal relationships, to how you spend your free time, each choice is a step towards creating the life you envision for yourself.
Investing in coaching (individual or group) is itself a powerful choice. It's a commitment to self-improvement and personal development. When you invest in coaching, you're intentionally choosing to take control of your life, to prioritize your growth, and to create a future that resonates with who you truly are. It's about embracing "A Life of Choice".
What is Your Word of the Year?
Some of my choices this year are … visibility, expansion, experimentation, assessment (not judgment), sharing expertise, creating opportunities to connect, freeing myself from self-imposed rules and expectations that inhibit my ability to show up fully.
What kinds of choices do you want to make for the year ahead? Where do you feel stuck and need help seeing choices? What areas in your life do you wish and hope for more transparency? What is your word of the year?
Until next time.
